MATTHEW 25:6

“At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’” (NLT)

TO PONDER:

As a child on the 24th December, hyped up by the childhood dreams of the expected life-changing gifts about to be delivered by the red suited gift-giver, we were told to go to sleep or the bringer of fulfilled hope and overwhelming joy would not come.

How could the any child, bursting with expectation, be expected to sleep?

Today’s verse is another favoured one of the eschatologically minded subset of believers who spend countless hours trying to work out when exactly the “bridegroom” will arrive (the latest viral, failed dates being “Rapture Tok”). With all due respect to the above mentioned subset the “bridegrooms” arrival is not based on any formulaic pronunciations, the right incantational prayer, or to be blunt, the righteousness of the church; God shows up in his grace, unexpectedly, at the right time, in the right place.

So, today’s verse is to remind us to expect, the unexpected God to move, to arrive in the darkest hours, on time.

We never know when Jesus will show up in our life so don’t stop looking for him in our everyday.

PRAYER: Almighty God, I thank you for your faithfulness in my life, that you never leave or forsake me, that you are constantly at work in all circumstances, active both in good and bad times. Help me to not grow complacent in my walk with you. Amen.
