The next walk is planned for Saturday 15th August - the Bouddi Coastal Walk near Woy Woy, about half way between Newcastle and Epping. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone from Newcastle to join in! It's about 3hrs (9km) and fairly typical of a coastal walk - a couple of beach crossings and up and over a few headlands (see attached), two of them quite steep. There are LOTS of stairs, and with the heavy rain last weekend and a fairly high clay content in the sandy soil, there was a lot of mud! Hopefully it will dry out a bit before the 15th.
The north to south direction is the better walk in my opinion, so I ask anyone wishing to car pool to meet at the Putty Beach picnic area (near the toilet block) at 12:30pm. If you're travelling from Sydney, allow an hour from the start of the freeway as the traffic on Woy Woy Rd can be quite slow. Leave half of the cars at Putty Beach ($6 parking in National Park), then drive the 15mins to MacMasters Beach. The walk will start from the MacMasters Beach Surf Life Saving Club at 1pm sharp.
For anyone wanting an extra challenge, I will be walking both directions again, departing Putty Beach at 9:30am. There's a picnic area behind the Surf Life Saving Club where we can have lunch and be ready to meet the others for the walk back at 1pm. There is a cafe, but the service could be slow, so I'd recommend bringing your lunch. You can still buy a coffee or a cold drink if you like. Let me know if this is of interest to anyone.
