PSALM 96:1-3

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous deeds among all peoples.

There is something about a new song. It gets played frequently on the radio and slowly works its way into the collective conscience. What we often miss is the fact that God gives us new opportunities to praise him every day. Did you thank him today for your breakfast (for some of you this may simply be coffee)? Did you thank him that you woke this morning, feeling well and able to face whatever the has in store? Did you thank him for clean running water delivered through your tap? When we constantly remember to thank and praise God for all he does for us, that thankfulness works its way into our conscience like a catchy song and before we know it, all we can do is repeat it over and over.

PRAYER (Luther's morning prayer)

I thank you, Heavenly Father, through your dear son, Jesus Christ, that You have protected me through the night from all harm and danger. I ask you to keep me this day too, from all sin and evil, so that in all things I may please You. Into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil one may have no power over me. Amen.
