2 CORINTHIANS 9:7-8
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
As an ex-maths teacher, I can't help but take the opportunity to talk about multiplication. We all learn, pretty early on in our mathematics career that when you multiply numbers together, they get bigger. For example 2x4=8 or 5x10=50 or perhaps even 12x12=144. Do you notice what is happening here? The larger the numbers that we start with, the greater the final result will be. However, if we progress far enough with our mathematical studies, we begin to encounter fractions!!! Those pesky 'parts' of whole numbers that change all the rules on us. Multiply a whole number by a fraction and the result will be a smaller number than you started with. For example 2x0.5=1. God tells us to give whatever we decide in our hearts to give, but multiplication happens best when we put more in. If we decide to give anything less that all that God has given us, then we are only multiplying a fraction, and the result of this kind of multiplication is less than it should be. When we decide to give everything to God, our time, our wealth, our lives, then the multiplication really kicks off. Not only is it Biblical truth, it's also mathematical truth - when it comes to multiplication the more you begin with, the bigger the results.
Heavenly Father, Thank you for all the ways you have blessed me. Please help me to develop the courage to hold nothing back when it comes to passing your generosity on to others. Help me to trust that you will abundantly supply all my needs in all things and at all times. Amen
