1 SAMUEL 17:17-18
Now Jesse said to his son David, “Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp. Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers are and bring back some assurance from them.
TO PONDER
Ever had one of those experiences where things don't go as you might have expected but somehow manage to work out better despite your plans? This is what happened to David. His father Jesse had sent him to go and check on his older brothers and to bring them a 'care package', as they were off serving in King Saul's army. David dutifully did as his father requested but while he was at the camp God used David for much more than delivering some bread and cheese, he used David to deliver the people of Israel from the Philistines and their champion Goliath. Sometimes God's plan is announced in advance by angels, however, sometimes it comes about through tending to our ordinary everyday tasks. The key though is to always be aware of the presence of God so that you will notice when he is prompting you to tend to something. Don't be surprised when your plans for your day are disrupted by God's plans. And don't be upset, God's plans are usually better than ours, even if they do mean that we need to face a Goliath from time to time.
PRAYER
Lord, you know my coming and going, you know when I get up and when I lie down; you know the tasks you have prepared and equipped me for. Help me also to know and to act when you are calling me to a specific task, but more than this, help me to serve you in all that I do, each and every day. Amen
